Happy #GetADifferentNameDay
What’s in a name?
Your name is used for identification, a given term you are addressed by, referred to and known for. It defines and distinguishes you. There are many reasons why you might want to change your name. And it could be changing your birth name or it could relate to changing your business name!
- Did you know Nicolas Cage changed his real name from Nicolas Kim Coppola to disassociate himself from his uncle, Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola?
- Peter Gene Hernandez chose to go by Bruno Mars so he wouldn’t be stereotyped as a Latin singer.
- What is now well known as Pepsi started out as Brad’s Drink, then rebranded to Pepsi-Cola because it was believed to help with indigestion, also known as dyspepsia.
- “Unadulterated Food Products” eventually became Snapple. Originally founded to sell all-natural juices the name was practical but not catchy. One of their popular products marketed for its ”snappy apple taste” gave way to the brand name we know today.
Sometimes the name you were given or the name you choose for your company at first doesn’t suit you anymore and it’s time for a fresh start. Who are you now? Taking a new name can help affirm a new identity.
Centipede Digital rebranded just last year, known as The Morganelli Agency before. Why? It’s time to change things up when you want to stand out from the crowd, be original and known for a unique trait. Centipedes are venomous and known for injecting paralyzing venom in their prey, which is very similar to what we do to our clients’ competitors when we enter a market! When we changed the name of the agency, we refreshed everything — meaning we updated our brand colors, style guide, brand voice/tone, and all customer touch points. Some owners forget how much work it can be to re-brand/re-name a company so before you go this route, contact someone who has gone through it in order to ensure you don’t miss anything!
Here’s a fun one for you…type “relentless.com” into your browser and it’ll bring you straight to the company it is today. You might be quite surprised!
